Guide to your Cottage

Telephone

There is no phone at the cottage.

Departure Time

Departure time is 10.00 am

We would be very grateful if you would adhere to this time as this allows us time to prepare the cottage for the next guests.

Cleaning

We aim only to use environmentally less damaging products. There is no such thing as an environmentally ‘friendly’ product.

We would be grateful if guests would use similar products.

Clean Bed Linen and Towels

We provide clean bed linen, towels and tea towels for each new set of guests.

We would be grateful if you could place dirty items in the bag provided and leave prominently in the bedrooms.

Upstairs: The laundry bag can be found hanging on the peg in the bedroom.

Downstairs : The laundry bag can be found hanging on the back of the wardrobe cupboard door.

The Multi-burner/Wood-burner/Aga Instructions

Due to the wooden construction we do not have a wood burner.

Similarly because of the construction of the building we would prefer guests not to have barbecues.

Heating

The Laundry has gas fired central heating. The heating controller can be found to the left of the downstairs bedroom doorway. It is touch sensitive with simple up and down controls.

Water Heating

The hot water is provided via the gas fired boiler. Water temperature is set. We trust that you will find it hot enough.

Water Stop-cocks

The water stop cock is clearly labelled and situated at knee height, on the left hand wall, just inside the downstairs shower room door. Just pull the panel off and operate.

Waste Disposal

We have provided a small bin in the kitchen for general waste and recyclables. The bin is labelled under the lid.

Bins can also be found in the two bathrooms.

Sadly our local authority does not recycle food waste. Please place bagged food waste in the general waste.

Place all plastic (including food wrappers), glass, tin cans, cardboard and paper in the recycling bin. Please do not worry about what your own local authority will and will not take. Put everything you think might be recyclable in the bin. We will sort the contents out.

If there is broken glass in the bin we would be grateful if you could leave us a note, thank you.

We would be grateful if guests could wash any recycling before placing in the bin. Dirty recycling results in the load being rejected.

If the kitchen bins become full replacement liners can be found under the sink. Please place full bags in the dustbins outside the back door. At the end of your stay please tie bin liners and place all recyclables and general waste in the larger bins situated outside of the back door.

If you possibly can please do not leave dog poo on the South Downs. Lots of dogs visit the downs and cumulatively they create a lot of poo. Not only does this effect other visitors but a lot of dog poo equals a lot of nitrates which is not good for chalk grass downland or the water supply.

General purpose public rubbish bins can take bagged dog poo. We have provided a bin at the Laundry for bagged dog poo.

Refuse Collection

There is no routine refuse collection at the Laundry. We collect the waste on each hand over.

Fire precautions, Extinguishers and Blankets

Downstairs: Fire extinguisher and blanket on the pillar in the kitchen.

Upstairs: Fire extinguisher situated next to the bedside cabinet in the bedroom.

Please read the fire instructions displayed. The appliances are there primarily for safety reasons. There is no expectation that guests will routinely fight fire. Get out, stay out, call 999 and ask for fire.

Window keys. We have left the window keys in the windows so that you can lock up when you go out. There are two keys. The bathroom key does both bathrooms. The downstairs key does the bedroom and the kitchen/diner window. We would strongly recommend that you do not lock the windows with the key when asleep.

Outside Lights

Outside lights are equipped with sensors so that they turns off when not in use. Because the Laundry is situated in a rural location and we want to cause as little disruption to the night life as possible we have not equipped outside lighting with an on off button. We hope that you will understand this decision.

Bat watching in the late evening natural light is such a joy.

Fuse Box

The fuse box is situated in the small ceiling height box fixed to the wall in the downstairs bedroom. It its marked with an electrical symbol.

This box also contains the electronics for the car charger.

If guests experience a problem with the electrics we would ask them, for safety reasons not to try to fix a problem but to call the letting agents who provide an emergency service. Details are provided in the welcome e mail from the company.

Parking

Two parking spaces are provided for exclusive use by guests on the south side of the Laundry clearly marked ‘The Laundry Parking’.

Our neighbours are very nice. Everyone in the adjacent cottages has their own parking space in the shared (gravel) area to the side of the premises.

Guests may find that very occasionally people who do not live in the cottages park outside of The Laundry to drop dogs off at the next-door kennels. There is parking at the kennels and we would prefer that they didn’t but if you do find that cars are parked in The Laundry private spaces they normally only parked for a very short period of time and then they leave.

Car Charger

The car charger is provided by ‘Go Zero’. Instructions for use at the back of this folder. This is a service provided specifically for hotels and guest houses.

It is a 7.4 kwh charger, so not the fastest but good enough for an over night charge or a top up. We would encourage night time charging due to the lower cost of electricity to you the user.

You will see if you read the ‘Go Zero’ publicity that owners can choose to set a tariff for payments above the normal supply cost for electricity. i.e. to make a small profit on top of the normal cost of electricity. We want to encourage EV usage. We have set our mark-up at zero. You will only pay the domestic cost for the electricity provided, what ever that is at the time. We do not make any profit from the charger.

If you go shopping at Waitrose in Eastbourne, there are fast chargers in the carpark (5.8 miles)

Pets

Pets are welcome up to the number stated on the Classic Cottages booking form. Please keep your pet under control and clear up after them. Pets are not permitted in the bedrooms or on the furniture. Please do not leave your pet in the cottage unsupervised as this can result in considerable damage to the property and distress to the pet.

In the main living room you will find a wicker basket containing dog blankets and bowls, for your convenience. If you use them please leave them out adjacent to the basket rather than placing them back in the basket so that we can wash them for the next dog guest.

Situated in the Old Stables on the other side of the tall wall that The Laundry is attached to is ‘Dogs As Guests’ a doggy day care kennels. Ideal if you want a day out and your dog fancies some canine company. Alyson, the owner is very amenable but these kennels are very popular and so she does need notice before she can take dogs there. Please book in advance of your planned day out.

Kitchen

We have kitted the purpose built kitchen out with everything we think you will need for your stay, including pots, pans and utensils for those who enjoy cooking.

Living room

In the living space you will find a smart TV. It is connected to the internet via the satellite dish on the outside of the building. We would ask that, for your own peace of mind you log off from which every streaming service you use when you depart.

A bluetooth speaker is hidden inside an old Bakelite radio in the living room, so that you can play your own play lists.

Other useful stuff

The downstairs bedroom cupboard contains a Vacuum Cleaner, Wash Basket, Clothes Airer and Pegs, an Ironing Board, an Iron.

There is also a bucket and mop in the cupboard if you need it.

There is a hotel style safe in this cupboard, to the left  of the door, bolted to the floor. Instructions for use are at the back of this folder but it is one of those put your code in and shut the door types. Please leave the door open at the end of your stay for the next guest.
