Local Shop and Opening Hours

Your Shop, Downlands Way, East Dean

Convenience Store. Closes 8pm. For bits and pieces.

Tescos Express, Eastbourne Road, Polegate.

Only if you need a pint of milk and are in the area.

Green Street, Eastbourne

If you like to support small local shops, Green Street, Eastbourne has a selection of privately owned small shops. A quality butchers, a good bakers, a very helpful fresh greengrocers, a privately run deli and a coffee shop for a cuppa.

It’s where we shop most of the time.

Nearest Supermarket

You could go into Lidl, Polegate or Morrisons in Seaford but we would suggest that you head into Eastbourne for a bigger food shop. All the large supermarkets are represented but at the western end of the town, as you come in to Eastbourne from Jevington is:

Waitrose, High St, Eastbourne BN21 1HR (5.8 miles from The Laundry) carpark around the back.

Shopping/Town Centre

Good Shopping Town/Centre

Eastbourne has a reasonably large modern shopping centre with all the usual high street stores.

The Beacon shopping centre (car park at 14 Ashford Rd, Eastbourne BN21 3NW) also contains the main town cinema and some night time entertainment.

For smaller retailers visit ‘Little Chelsea’, Grove Road and South Street, Eastbourne. BN21 4XB.

Antiques, art and independent clothes shops.

If you don’t mind a bit of a drive Lewes, Battle and Rye are all interesting for a mung around.

Lewes is the easiest to get to and has some good independent shopping. Galleries, antiques and bohemian vintage shops are a real feature of the town. Great eating too.

Maybe try a Harveys Brewery Tour. https://www.harveys.org.uk/brewery-tours

Battle is well known for its William the Conqueror (1066) history, but it also enjoys a pretty high street with some interesting independent shopping.

Rye is a bit of a drive, 30 miles but is a great place to mung about for a day. Some interesting antique and art shops. Ignore the satnav, don’t take the coast road through Hastings. Instead come off the A259 at Hooe, drive up through Battle and along the ridge through Cripps Corner and Brede. Pretty drive out taking in some beautiful views.

Brighton. If you want an all day shopping experience head to Brighton. All of the big luxury brands are represented. The South Lanes are a jumble of narrow lanes which are home to some interesting boutiques and jewellery shops and the North Lanes are a funky bohemian mix of the edgy and the odd.

Brighton is also a night life Mecca. Just expect it to be buzzing after dark.

Lots of interesting eating in Brighton. One of our favourites is The Salt Room, just east of the Brighton Centre on the seafront. Great fresh fish restaurant.

There is a lot to do in Brighton but two of our favourites are the Sealife Centre, near the pier and the Royal Pavilion, Indian Styled Royal palace, right in the city centre.

Nearest Cashpoint

Your Shop, 17, 18 Downlands Way, East Dean, Eastbourne BN20 0HR

Or if you are heading into Eastbourne there’s a cash point on the main road at the front of Waitrose. Pass the Lamb Public House on your left, after 50 metres stop in the lay-by on the left before the bus stop and its on the wall of Waitrose near the entrance door.

Post Office

Polegate Post Office (nearest), located in the Co-op High Street, Polegate. BN26 6AQ.

Or if you are heading in to Eastbourne, The Post office 50, Ocklynge Road, Old Town, Eastbourne BN21 1PP.

There is a main Post Office in Eastbourne town centre but you’ll have to park and its easier to use one of the smaller post offices.
